Visit of Fundación Consciencia

Hello everyone,

A quick update on the current volunteer team, consisting of Vincent, Lara, and Alexander.

In addition to our work at @Dame La Mano, our volunteers also help out with other organisations such as Every Day Homeless, Sembrando Paz y Esperanza, and hopefully soon with Fundación Consciencia.

The latter organisation carries out various activities for the local population of the Nueva Jerusalén “invasion,” focusing especially on children: sports, art, and English classes, mental wellness sessions, food distribution, and more.

Of the 100 families living there, 90 are displaced from other parts of the region and elsewhere in Colombia. These are people who had to flee from paramilitaries, criminal groups, and guerrillas. They can be called refugees, but then internal refugees, within the country of Colombia.

Cristian the local social leader and started this project welcomed us very kindly, showed us around the neighborhood, explained more about the history of the neighborhood, and explained us his future plans!
