European Solidarity Corps

WHAT IS ESC?

The European Solidarity Corps is a European grant program that gives young Europeans the opportunity to do volunteer work abroad (in countries of the European Union and partner countries).

The European Solidarity Corps brings together young people to build a more inclusive society, supporting vulnerable people and responding to societal challenges. It offers an inspiring and empowering experience for young people who want to help, learn and develop.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

-Individuals between 18-30 (under 31 at the start of your volunteering activity is still ok).

-Born in Belgium or have the Belgian pasport!

-Motivated to build a more inclusive society!

-People who are available to participate full-time for a period ranging from 2 weeks to 12 months.

Which countries?

EU countries and EU partner countries!

Register on the EU portal and find the list of organisations/opportunities for which you can apply for:

(Make sure when you register add the portal to add that you are born in Belgium because the projects you are eligible for depend on your nationality)!

I completed my ESC at the Centre Sportif d'Alsace in Mulhouse, France. It was a very enriching experience and my first opportunity to work in a boarding school.

During my volunteering period, I developed a social project called Squash pour tout-e-s, which received funding from the French government.

I organized summer activities, including camps and introductory lessons, to promote elite sports clubs among children from disadvantaged neighborhoods.

I also had the chance to practise my French every day, which greatly improved my language skills.

In addition, I participated in training courses organized by the European Union.

Most importantly, I built a great connection with the children, and we shared many enjoyable moments together.

Steps to take!

Since volunteering through the European Solidarity Corps is a grant program, the budget, and therefore the number of spots is limited.

So start your search early and be open to different opportunities in different countries. That way you have a bigger chance in becoming an European volunteer!

Step 1 - Sign up for the European Solidarity Corps through the European Youth Portal.

Step 2 - Find a project and host organization abroad through the European Youth Portal.

Step 3 - To go abroad, you need Intercambio Vzw as a sending organisation. We'll help you prepare for your departure and give you all the necessary information!

What's included?

You will be reimbursed for your round-trip travel expenses.
Your lodging will be provided
You will receive three meals a day or a meal allowance.
You will also receive spending money; the exact amount depends on the country you are traveling to.
