Who am I?
Hello there! My name is Jordi. I’m 27 years old and part of the wonderful VZW Intercambio.
Travel has always been my greatest passion, but in recent years, I wanted to give more meaning to my travel experiences. Through Alex, I discovered Intercambio, which gave me the chance to truly give back to the world. In early 2025, I joined as a volunteer, and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
By nature, I’m a curious and optimistic person, qualities that fit perfectly with the children I taught English in the Comuna Trece neighborhood in Colombia. The experience was incredible, and after returning to Belgium, I knew I wanted to stay involved. That’s how I eventually became a member of the Intercambio board.
I studied Veterinary Medicine at UGent. Although I’m not currently practicing, it’s encouraging to know that MedellÃn, with its many social initiatives, offers numerous opportunities for volunteering, even in the veterinary field.
My function and experience in volunteeringÂ
Before joining Intercambio, my volunteering experience was limited to the occasional weekend helping out in a theatre. The project in Comuna Trece deeply inspired me because Intercambio aims to address the root causes of social challenges in MedellÃn’s neighborhoods. It’s a vision I wholeheartedly share.
Rather than treating symptoms, we strive to empower people by teaching them English, helping them communicate with others worldwide, and giving them tools for self-expression across different fields. Step by step, we’re shifting stones, and together, we’re moving mountains.
Within Intercambio, my role involves helping to organize events such as our annual festival, intercultural quiz, and language exchanges. Through these activities, we share our message with the wider public and invite more people to join the Intercambio family!
