disfrazarse y fiesta

Hi friends from all over the world!

A special article for a special day!

Every August 11 the people of Antioquia (the region that Medellín is part of) celebrate their independence from the Spanish crown in 1813, a date that is commemorated since then to highlight the values of their culture and the strength that in the midst of the mountains has forged a society born from rurality.

And guess what: it's an amazing day for our students. They can make their own costumes, dress-up, join the paradas, learn more about the history of their ancestors, and learn English in a playful way,...

It's also a nice activity for our volunteers ; it's a way to understand where the values and habits of Antioqueñios come from, to spend time with our students outside of the classroom ; to show the local people and say yes we are here, we are curious, we want to get to know you!

These are unforgettable moments for everyone who participates in this project!

And so I want to make use of this article to thank all the people from Sembrando Paz y Esperanza: our students, Yenny, Sara, Andres,... for all the beautiful moments of the last two years.

It has been a great adventure and it will be long lasting one: we are not finished yet!

Alexander
